This weekend is the Bermuda International Gombey Festival. Starting Thursday, October 11th, stop by Fort Hamilton for the Made in Bermuda Nights: Gombey Festival Edition. This event will feature food, drinks and live entertainment by home-grown talent including the Wall Street Band and DJ Chubb. Continue the celebration on Friday at the Specialty Cinema with a screening of “Play, Jankunú Play – The Garifuna Wanaragua Ritual of Belize” and several short films from scholar and filmmaker Wills Glasspiegel, who will be present for a question and answer session at the end. The main show will take place on Saturday, October 12th at the Bermuda Botanical Gardens. Bring a blanket or chair and head to the hillside or bleachers to watch Bermuda’s 5 Gombey troupes display their passion and artistry in the annual Gombey Festival showcase, with special guests. Wrap up the weekend on Sunday with Nadanja’s Ayo! Open Mic Sponsored by the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs. Visit the official event website for additional information.
