Why Curb Appeal Is So Important Post Covid 19

As the saying goes: “You only get one chance to make a first impression” which is why curb appeal is such a critical part of selling your home. And while curb appeal is always important, it’s especially important now. At the moment COVID-19 may prevent would-be buyers from touring the inside of your home as freely as normal. Although virtual tours, video tours, and virtual open houses are on the rise, buyers are also tending to do a ‘drive by’ of the house that they are interested in, to get a feel for the neighbourhood, and a look at the exterior of the house.

While restrictions are being lifted, and life is getting back to some form of normalcy, you will likely still find buyers who are not entirely comfortable going into a lot of homes for quite some time. So, make sure to make the biggest impact you can from the outside while the effects of the pandemic continue to affect how buyers look for their new home.

Below I have outlined simple tricks you can use to increase your home’s curb appeal to attract more buyers during the pandemic, including:

  • Groom your yard. Your yard is arguably the first thing people will notice when they look at the exterior of your home—so make sure to keep your yard watered, mowed, well planted and well-groomed.
  • Looking for a fast, easy, and affordable way to improve your home’s exterior? A fresh coat of paint can work wonders. Research on popular modern colors that will look attractive and get the buyers’ attention, is well worth your time. If a house needs painting, it can’t be seen as ‘needing a lot of work’, when infact it is only the paint that needs a freshen up, and in any event, it is one less thing for your buyer to have to do, and they will thank you for that. A good coat of paint lasts a couple of years in Bermuda, so they will be able to put funds they may have set aside for painting, towards other improvements.
  • Install exterior lighting. If a buyer drives past your home at night, you want it to look just as appealing as it does during the daytime hours. Installing exterior lighting can help illuminate your property after dark—and increase your curb appeal after the sun goes down. Be sure to have one that illuminates your Agent’s ‘FOR SALE’ sign.
